Public Riding Etiquette

To ensure everyone's safety while riding during busy times, we ask you to observe the following rules of riding etiquette after you sign in. Please be considerate of other people who may be riding young horses in training - ask before you take down signs!

  1. Circle to the LEFT at the NORTH end of the arena and to the SOUTH end
  2. Always pass oncoming riders LEFT left to LEFT leg
  3. Fast moving riders on an OUTSIDE track, slower moving riders on an INSIDE track (e.g. loping/cantering outside track, trotting, walking, inside track)
  4. Do not ride more than two abreast on the rail, and if it is really busy, only singly
  5. If you must stop to talk with another rider, please move into the center of the circle
  6. Please do not congest the center of the arena as riders working the two circles must pass through this area.
  7. If you want to practice riding straight lines and stops, fencing your horse or running figure eight patterns, do so ONLY when the arena is not busy.
  8. Longeing only in the SOUTHEAST corner WITH permission of the other riders.
  9. No barrels or jumps during public riding. No loose horses in the arena. No horses allowed to roll in the Arena.
  10. Please remember to scoop your poop in arena and horse areas both the Agriplex and Hebson arena are non-smoking facilities.

For your information it is an OAS policy that during public riding times you have the absolute right to deny other activities to be conducted in the arena while public riding time is scheduled. This means that if an individual wants to put up barrels, flags, poles or conduct any other type of activity, that is not just public riding, they MUST receive the public riders consent to do so.

If you are concerned that the other activity may disturb your public riding in any way, you have the right to say NO and they must comply immediately.

We have this policy in place to ensure the safety and comfort for all our public riders. If you ever have issues with individuals not complying with this policy, please notify the office immediately. If you have any concerns or questions about this policy, please contact the Manager or any of your Board of Directors.
