The Okotoks Agricultural Society (OAS) is the oldest ongoing agricultural society in Western Canada. It has been a cornerstone to the community in the Okotoks area for one hundred and nineteen years.
The Society provides a home to a wide variety of groups and equine activities and serves to preserve part of the areas heritage with horses. Two 4 H Clubs, Pony Club, Therapeutic Riding for "special needs" children and Future Cowboys and Cowgirls Rodeo Society are programs available to the youth in our area.
People of all ages participate in horse shows, riding lessons, cutting, working cow horse competitions, reining, barrel racing, trick riding, roping, team cattle penning and recreational riding. Beyond the strong local membership, the facilities are used in competitions by contestants from all over Alberta.
The Okotoks Agricultural Society currently faces two financial challenges. The first is the Alberta government has reduced the operating grants to all Agricultural societies requiring the OAS to develop new revenue sources for $60,000 per year. Part of this can be achieved by increasing charges and membership costs, but we are limited by some of our user groups ability to pay more. Because of the society's central role in the community and the wide cross section of people who use our facilities we are reaching out to the business community to seek sponsors who would benefit from advertising at our facilities or events.
There are three levels of sponsorship available. The first is the "Partnership" level for $3,000. This includes signage in the main arena, recognition at all events, acknowledgement on our web site and in our newsletter. The second level is our "Sustainer" level which will involve recognition at any three of our events you choose for $1,000. The third level is as an "Event Sponsor" for $500, where your business would be recognized at an event of your choice. A list of the events for 2011 is attached.
The second issue faced by the OAS is the urgent need to replace the roof on Hebson arena. Temporary fixes have now left us exposed to the risk of very serious damage if we do not replace the roof this summer. We believe we will get some funding from governments but are faced with raising $75,000 to receive government support and to complete the projects.
We would ask your consideration in providing us with your financial support in addressing these important needs. If we may be of assistance in assisting you in this decision please do not hesitate to call the undersigned, the OAS office or any of the Society's board members.
Thank You.
